FAQs
NibbleNet® Frequently Asked Questions
Q: WHICH SIZE BAG SHOULD I PURCHASE?
A: PLEASE MEASURE YOUR FLAKES OF HAY IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE PROPER SIZE YOU WILL NEED. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS PUT LESS HAY IN A LARGER BAG AND BECAUSE IT IS FABRIC AND FLEXIBLE, THE HORSE WILL BE ABLE TO GET ALL OF THE HAY WITH NO PROBLEM.
Q: WHICH SIZE OPENINGS SHOULD I USE?
A: VETS AND EQUINE PROFESSIONALS LIKE THE 1.5" OPENINGS BECAUSE IT SLOWS THE HORSES DOWN THE MOST. THE SMALLER OPENINGS ARE CERTAINLY THE BEST FOR HEALTH RELATED AND WEIGHT ISSUES.
I RECOMMEND THE 2" OPENINGS FOR A COARSE OR HAY WITH LOTS OF STEMS. I ALSO RECOMMEND THE 2" OPENINGS FOR GENERAL USE AS IT WORKS FOR ANY TYPE OF HAY OR ANY HORSE IN ANY SITUATION.
Q: WHY ARE THESE HAY BAGS SO EXPENSIVE?
A: TO START WITH, THEY REALLY ARE NOT EXPENSIVE COMPARED TO THE WASTED HAY THAT IS TRAMPLED INTO THE GROUND. WITH THE NibbleNet®, THE HORSES EAT SLOWER, SO LESS HAY IS USED AND MONEY IS SAVED. NOT TO MENTION THE POSSIBLE VET BILLS FOR SAND COLIC, ULCERS AND OTHER AILMENTS FROM NON-CONSISTENT GRAZING WHICH THEY ARE DESIGNED TO DO.
WE USE THE BEST AND MOST DURABLE MATERIALS FOR THESE BAGS. THE BEST MATERIALS ARE NOT CHEAP. WE HAVE TESTED MANY DIFFERENT FABRICS. THE WEBBING AND FABRIC USED IS THE BEST FOR ALL AROUND DURABILITY AND LONGEVITY.
WE ALSO USE HEAVY DUTY MILITARY GRADE HARDWARE...ONCE AGAIN THE BEST!
THESE BAGS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED RIGHT HERE IN THE USA BY US. WHEN YOU CALL OR E-MAIL US, YOU GET PROMPT AND PERSONAL SERVICE FROM US. NOW, WHERE DO YOU GET SERVICE LIKE THAT THESE DAYS?
Q: HOW LONG WILL MY HAY LAST?
A: OF COURSE, THAT DEPENDS ON THE HORSE AND THE TYPE OF HAY. SOME HORSES WILL EAT THE HAY UNTIL IT IS GONE WHILE OTHERS WILL TAKE A BREAK.
COARSE HAY WITH MORE STEMS WILL LAST A BIT LONGER THAN GRASS HAY. WITH OUR EXPERIENCE, THE NibbleNet® WILL DOUBLE OR TRIPLE THE TIME NORMALLY TAKEN TO CONSUME THE HAY. FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME, WE RECOMMEND THE XL SIZES WHICH CAN LAST ALL DAY OR ALL NIGHT.
Q: HOW SAFE IS THE NibbleNet®?
A: THE NibbleNet® IS EXTREMELY SAFE!! THE HORSE CANNOT GET HUNG UP IN IT. THE ONLY DANGER WOULD BE THE BOTTOM STRAP. AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO USING THE BOTTOM STRAP, SEE OUR PHOTO IDEAS FOR USING DOUBLE-ENDED SNAP HOOKS OR SECURING THE BOTTOM WITH BAILING TWINE WHICH WILL BREAK IF THERE IS A PROBLEM.
SAFETY IS ALWAYS PARAMOUNT!! PLEASE OBSERVE YOUR HORSE WHEN USING THE NibbleNet® FOR THE FIRST TIME.
Q: CAN I HANG THE NibbleNet® LOW TO THE GROUND OR PLACE THEM ON THE GROUND FOR A MORE NATURAL HEAD POSITION?
A: YES, WE RECOMMEND THE DOUBLE-NIBBLE STYLE FOR "GROUND FEEDING". THE NibbleNet® CAN BE ATTACHED TO A WOOD PALLET, A STALL MAT OR MOUNTED INSIDE A TROUGH OR WOOD BOX. DOUBLE-ENDED SNAP HOOKS WORK WELL FOR THIS APPLICATION.
ONCE AGAIN, SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT. IF YOUR HORSE IS SHOD AND/OR PAWS, THIS NET SHOULD NOT BE USED ON THE GROUND OR WE RECOMMEND MOUNTING INSIDE A WOOD BOX OR TROUGH.
Q: HOW DOES THE TOP CLOSE? CAN THE HORSE GRAB HAY OUT OF THE TOP?
A: WE USE (2) SETS OF D-RINGS ON THE TOPS OF THE STANDARD BAGS AND (4) SETS ON THE XL BAGS. THESE CLIP FROM FRONT TO BACK TO CLOSE THE TOP.
OBVIOUSLY, IF YOU LEAVE HAY STICKING OUT OF THE TOP, THE HORSE WILL LEARN TO EAT FROM THE TOP. THE NibbleNet® IS DESIGNED WITH A SPECIFIED HEIGHT SO A STANDARD FLAKE WILL BE WELL BELOW THE TOP OF THE BAG. THIS WILL TRAIN YOUR HORSE TO EAT FROM THE OPENINGS ON THE FRONT AS DESIGNED.
Q: WHY DON'T YOU USE VELCRO OR A ZIPPER TO CLOSE THE TOP?
A: HORSES BEING 1000 (+) POUND ANIMALS HAVE THE CAPACITY TO DESTROY A ZIPPER VERY QUICKLY. ALSO, HAY WILL GET STUCK IN BOTH VELCRO AND A ZIPPER AND MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO USE OVER TIME. WE USE HEAVY DUTY MILITARY GRADE D-RINGS FOR MAXIMUM DURABILITY AND FUNCTION.
Q: How long will my NibbleNet® last?
A: The NibbleNet® is extremely durable and tough. It can take a lot of use and some abuse. If your horse is rough with the bag, you may want to take it away from him when not in use. Bags that do take a lot of abuse may need to be replaced periodically. Your NibbleNet® may last months or years depending on different factors. Factors depend on whether you have a gentle horse or a more aggressive horse, where you hang the bag and how it is secured. Compare the life of your bag to the life of a running shoe. The webbing and vinyl is being rubbed back and forth thousands of times a day. We have made every effort to make these bags as strong as possible, but expect to periodically replace you bag.
Q: Do you do repairs?
A: No, we recommend that you use your local shoe repair service, canvas shop or saddle / harness maker to repair any tears in the webbing or stitching.
